Nuplaglas Properties and Tech Specs
PRODUCT TECHNICAL DATA
PRODUCT: NUPLAGLAS® FIBERGLASS
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
Tensile strength:
This is the characteristic strength measured in pounds required to break a sample material under tension one inch by one inch in cross-section. Nuplaglas® measures a minimum 100,000 lbs. per square inch.
Modulus of elasticity:
This property is essentially a measure of stiffness. Defined as the ratio of the stress applied either tension or flexure to the strain or amount of yield which results from that stress. Nuplaglas® modulus ratio is approximately 6,000,000 lbs. per square inch.
Flexural strength:
This property is the force required to break a sample beam supported on two separate supports at the center. Nuplaglas® measures 125,000 lbs. per square inch.
Specific gravity:
1.85 - 2.05, or approx. 2 grams per cubic centimeter.
IZOD impact strength:
This property measures the relative resistance to fracture by a sudden blow such as with a hammer. Nuplaglas® impact strength 17 foot lbs. per inch of notch.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES :
Moisture: Water absorption .02 weight change after 24 hours.
Weather: Effect of sunlight and temperature - none to slight
THERMAL PROPERTIES :
Coefficient of thermal:
This property relates to the change in length which occurs as a result of a change in temperature. Nuplaglas® has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion of only 2 to 3 millionths of an inch of length for each degree rise in temperature.
K-Thermal conductivity:
.00248 BTU per square foot per sec per zero degrees F, per inch
Burning rate:
Nuplaglas® is classed as self extinguishing. This means that although it might be forced to burn while exposed to a flame, it will not support combustion when the flame is removed.
Operating temperature:
Nuplaglas® can withstand continuous exposure up to a temperature of 250 degrees F without significant degradation of its strength. At a temperature of 250 degrees F the handle will begin to lose flexural and impact strength properties. However, once the handle has cooled completely, it recovers to its original strength. There is no degradation of strength at zero degrees Fahrenheit.
