Fire Axes

Nupla’s range of Fire Axes includes Pick Head, Flat Head and Pulaski Axes offered with two handle styles – Classic® and Ergo Power® - and three grip variations.

All tools feature solid Genuine Nuplaglas® handles for strength, safety and durability.

These tools are simply the best and have been the industry standard for decades.  From the mid ‘40s - when the Nuplaglas pultrusion process was patented as the most viable solution to prevent loss and injuries due to failed wood handled tools - to this day, Nupla has designed and developed a multitude of the highest quality Nuplaglas handled tools.

Classic® handles are made with the patented Nuplaglas process of pultruding millions of continuous parallel fiberglass strands cured under tension in a thermosetting resin to create solid tool handles of tremendous strength and durability.

Ergo Power® handles, which focus on comfort with strength and durability, incorporate a pultruded Nuplaglas structural core with a tough, cut resistant, injection molded outer jacket of engineering polymer for the perfect balance of ergonomic comfort, safety, strength and durability.

Pick Head Fire Axes have drop forged, heat treated heads with ground and tempered cutting edges for nick resistance and long lasting edge.  Fire axes, in 6 lb. through 8 lb. weights, are offered with both Ergo Power and Classic handle styles.  Classic handles are available in 24 to 36” lengths with ergonomic comfort grips.  Ergo Power handles are available in a 36” length, and also offered in a 36” contoured style, ergonomically shaped for comfort and efficiency.

Flat Head Axes are available with a 6 lb. head in both Ergo Power and Classic handle styles in a 36” length.  Drop forged, heat treated heads have ground and tempered cutting edges for nick resistance and long lasting edge.  A 36” contoured style handle is also available for the flat head axe.

Pulaski Axes  - this combination axe and grub hoe, with ground and tempered cutting edges, is ideal for digging fire lines in hard and soft soils.  The axe is available in a 3.5 lb. weight with Ergo Power or Classic handles in 28” to 36” lengths.

The strength of Nuplaglas handles exceeds all Federal standards.  Flame resistant to 800 degrees Fahrenheit, the handles resist heat to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, and are unaffected by sub zero temperatures.  They have excellent dielectric properties that make them safe to use even in wet conditions.  Smooth, resin rich handle surfaces protect users from splinters and resist UV deterioration.  The handles are unaffected by cuts, blows, moisture, or most industrial chemicals and are easily cleaned of concrete, tar etc.  In addition, the tools have a high shelf life since they are unaffected by fungus, termites or dry rot as are wood handled tools.
